A Stellate Ganglion Block is a treatment with a local anesthetic, sometimes coupled with a steroid. While this procedure is used as a diagnostic tool, it can provide pain relief beyond the duration of the nerve block. This procedure is used to treat a variety of conditions that produce pain involving an arm or the head and face. These conditions include Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, Sympathetic Maintained Pain, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome and Herpes Zoster (Shingles). If you are experiencing any of these painful conditions, the doctors at Tristate Multi-Specialty Medical Services PC can work to resolve your pain.
The doctors at Tristate Multi-Specialty Medical Services PC can complete this procedure in several minutes. Our doctors will cleanse and numb the involved site with a local anesthetic. While general anesthesia cannot be used during this procedure, some intravenous sedation may be used and you may fall asleep briefly. You will be closely monitored throughout this process by our medical staff.
You will be able to return home shortly after the completion of the treatment. After a day or so of rest, you can return to your usual activities. Provided that you have a good response to this procedure, a reduction in your pain, we will recommend that you have additional treatments. While responses vary among patients, some need 2-4 and others may need more. Generally, the earlier in the illness you present for treatment of your pain, the better your response should be.
Pain caused by these conditions is often debilitating. At Tristate Multi-Specialty Medical Services PC we share your goal of reducing the pain you are experiencing. A Stellate Ganglion Block is a safe procedure and can help you return to a lifestyle that is not crippled by this pain.
